If your city is famous as a world famous tourist place, can you ever be angry about this? That too when a lot of tourists are coming to the city? But this is happening. People of the famous Venice city of Italy in Europe are very angry with the increasing tourism. Due to this the condition of the roads of the city has deteriorated. The situation is such that people have now started calling their own city by another name. They have now started calling Venice as Veniceland. Their argument is that the city has become an amusement park.
This popular destination, known for its beautiful squares, palaces and canals, attracts around 30 million tourists every year. But this influx has given rise to many big problems, due to which the authorities have imposed a tax of 5 euros i.e. around Rs 500 on day visitors this summer.
Yet locals are skeptical about its effectiveness in dealing with problems caused by tourists staying more than a day. Frustrated Italians are venting their complaints on Reddit, with one recent post criticizing the new tax, “How will a 5 euro tax reduce tourist congestion in Venice?, ‘Oh no, I spent hundreds of euros on travel and hotels to get there, but 5 euros is too much! I’m going back to Indonesia!’”

In a scathing response, one user joked that Venice has become more of a “museum” than a living city, while another quipped, “This is needed because Venice is a real city, it’s not an amusement park where you pay a ticket to enter…”
Venetians did not hold back their outrage either. One local responded that his historic city had turned into an “amusement park” filled with “junk shops.” He dubbed it “Veniceland.” Another comment agreed, repeating, “Yes, the inhabitants are almost extinct. Mass tourism has killed the city.”
